Penhill Benefice
Welcome to Penhill benefice: In this benefice which covers a large part of picturesque Wensleydale there are six churches and one mission room. The churches are at Aysgarth, Castle Bolton, Preston under Scar, Redmire, Wensley and West Witton, and the mission room is at Thornton Rust. Our Vicar is the Rev Canon Sue Whitehouse who lives at the Vicarage in Carperby, tel 01969 663235. Our associate vicar, the Rev Penny Yeadon, (01969 663505) is a non-stipendiary minister and works full time at North Yorkshire County Hall. The benefice office is run by Christine Gard. Aysgarth church -St Andrew’s is open every day from 9am to 6pm so why not pop in and see the famous Jervaulx Screen. The medieval church of Holy Trinity at Wensley is also open each day, 9am to 4pm.
SERVICES
Aysgarth church - The Rev Whitehouse and Ian Ferguson will lead the holy communion service at St Andrew’s at 11am on Sunday, May 20. Every Wednesday there is a short communion service at 9.15am.
Castle Bolton church - The morning prayer service at 9.30am on Sunday, May 20 is led by John Webster.
Preston under Scar church - The evensong service at St Margaret’s at 6pm on Sunday, May 20, is led by the Rev Whitehouse.
West Witton church – The holy communion service at St Bartholomew’s at 9.30am on Sunday, May 20, is led by the Rev Whitehouse.
There is an Ascension Day service at Jervaulx Abbey at 7pm on Thursday, May 17. Do take something to sit on, an umbrella and maybe even a blanket!
